Here at the Vital Touch we offer many ways to help your staff thrive at work and at home, from mindfulness to laughing workshops. More than ever we are talking about mindfulness, but what is it and how can it help?  Mindfulness can help manage your wellbeing and mental health.  It can enable you to feel less overwhelmed, positively change the way you think and feel about your experiences (especially stressful experiences), increase your ability to manage difficult situations, reduce levels of anxiety, reduce levels of depression and enable you to have greater self-compassion.   Mindfulness is a quality that every human being already possesses, it’s not something you have to conjure up, you just have to learn how to access it. Meditation begins and ends in the body.  It involves taking the time to pay attention to where we are and what’s going on.  That starts with being aware of our body.

The annoying fact is that we so often move from the matter at hand.  Our mind takes flight, we lose touch with our body and pretty soon we can find ourselves engrossed in obsessive thought about something that just happened or fretting about the future.  That can make us anxious.  Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present, aware of what we are and what we are doing, and not overly reactive or be overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.   It’s a pretty straightforward word.  It suggests that the mind is fully attending to what’s happening, to what you’re doing, to the space you’re moving through. Mindfulness is not fluffy nonsense or silly, nor is it a passing fad, but it does take effort and work to develop mindfulness skills and time to practice them. Scientific evidence and clinical research that underpins mindfulness is strong and growing.  It shows positive effects on several aspects of whole-person health, including the mind, the brain, the body and behaviour.

When we are mindful, we reduce stress, enhance performance, gain insight and awareness through observing our own mind.  Through mindfulness meditation we can suspend judgment and release our natural curiosity about the workings of the mind.  Anyone can do it and with practice we can bring awareness and caring into everything we do.  Mindfulness can lead us to effective, resilient, low-cost responses to seemingly intransigent problems.  Even a little can bring positive benefits for health, happiness, work and relationships.  To find out more about our mindfulness workshop email us…
